Miltec UV will showcase its redesign HPI UV system, model HPI-XR-R20, with two new features at IWF.
The first new feature is an electronic power supply that is more energy efficient than conventional power supplies, according to the company.
“Conventional UV systems, and previous versions of the Miltec HPI UV systems, utilize large ballasts to power the UV lamp at 60 Hz, regardless of the lamp power setting,†the company said in a statement. “The new XR Electronic Power Supply offers higher frequency ranges variable between 50 Hz and 500 Hz which allows it to operate with an AC square wave, thus virtually eliminating any modulation in the flow of electricity to the lamp. This results in a power supply that is 97 percent efficient as opposed to large transformer-based power supplies that are only 92% efficient.
“The second and most important improvement to the Miltec HPI UV system is the addition of the new R20 reflector design that increases the peak irradiance UV output by 20 percent on average across all UV spectral output ranges compared to the previous HPI reflector. Since the HPI UV system already had enhanced UV peak irradiance output levels, compared to conventional UV curing systems in the wood finishing industry, the addition of the new R20 reflectors allows wood finishers to cure coatings at even faster line speeds. Furthermore, this system can cure thicker coatings, with fewer lamps and even reduce the coating cost by reducing the photoinitiator content. The photoinitiator, the component that reacts to the UV light to cause the coating to crosslink or polymerize and harden, is the single most expensive ingredient in the coating.â€:
